A Pittsburgh man and an Altoona woman face drug and related charges after they caused a disturbance Thursday at the South Midway Plaza along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bedford, court documents state.
Joshua Garrett Smithson, 30, was arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Judge Kevin R. Diehl on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and false identification to a law enforcement officer and a summary charge of disorderly conduct.
Christine Nicole Seibel, 33, was also arraigned Friday before Diehl on felony charges of aggravated assault of an officer and possession with intent to deliver, as well as misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and false identification to a law enforcement officer, along with two summary charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.
According to court documents, the pair were causing a disturbance with a Greyhound Bus at the plaza. Both Smithson and Seibel gave officers false identification, and while detaining Smithson, an officer found a glass jar containing a hard white substance.
As police attempted to detain Seibel, she pulled away and attempted to run. Seibel also kicked an officer, breaking his glasses, court documents state.
Seibel continued to resist and a Taser was used several times until she was detained, officers reported.
Both Smithson and Seibel were taken to the Bedford state police barracks where officers found 77 grams of suspected methamphetamine in Smithson’s bag. The bag also contained a glass pipe with residue, jars containing dried mushrooms and residue, another jar containing residue and rolling papers, court documents state.
Bags belonging to Seibel were searched, and police found 90 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 17 yellow Suboxone packets, a jar containing a bluish-white substance, a jar containing residue, a rubber bottle containing residue, a digital scale, empty clear baggies, an empty pouch, a copper scrubber, a glass smoking device, a plastic bag containing a bluish-white substance, a black box containing a clear plastic tube and a metal spoon with residue, according to court records.
Unable to post $400,000 bail each, they were remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility.
Both are scheduled to appear before Diehl for preliminary hearings on May 25.
