GLENVILLE, W.Va. (WV News) — Alumni of the land surveying program at Glenville State University returned to campus recently to join current students, faculty, and staff in the Department of Land Resources for the 50th anniversary celebration of the program.

Alumni of the land surveying program at Glenville State University join faculty, staff, current students and other guests for a group photo during the 50th anniversary celebration of the program that was held recently.

The golden anniversary celebration for the land surveying program included a reception for alumni to reconnect and reminisce, photo slide shows and a display of surveying equipment used by students over the years, and presentations from the faculty about the program and future plans.

“The 50th anniversary celebration of the Land Surveying program was a success. There were over 50 alumni and guests who attended the reunion,” said Department of Land Resources Chair Dr. Rico Gazal. “Thanks to everyone who helped in planning this event and a special thanks to everyone who participated in the celebration.”

At the event, the Department of Land Resources recognized Carlson Software, Stanley Trent, Dr. Darrell Dean, Mark McCormick and Paul Liston for their contributions to the program. Each received a custom-engraved cobalt blue Blenko Glass water bottle.

David Hutchison, representing the GSU Foundation, was also on hand to recognize Tom Snyder, Rick Sypolt, Marshall Robinson and Greg Smith for their ongoing support of land surveying at Glenville State. Hutchison presented each of those individuals with a Pioneer statue.

“Many of our alumni have been extraordinarily successful, and each has made a long-lasting impact on the profession. We are proud to be a part of an institution that leaves such a positive impact on its graduates and their communities. The continued support from those who returned for the 50th anniversary was, among many things, inspiring,” Doyle Hupp Jr. and Jacob Petry said in a joint statement. Both are current land surveying instructors at Glenville State.
