Our Corvallis events calendar is back! Live music, stage, lectures, athletics, government meetings, political debates, protests, marches… the list could go on, but you get the idea, if it’s happening in Corvallis, it’s here. With our calendar’s return after a two year absence, it’s starting to feel like things are finally getting back to normal – phew.

Julie Green’s The Last Supper: Final Plates. Corvallis Museum , 411 SW 2nd St., Corvallis. 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Free. Nationally renowned artist and Oregon State University art professor Julie Green (they/them) began this series of paintings on second-hand ceramic plates in the 1990s after reading about the final meals of inmates on death row in Oklahoma. Each cobalt blue-painted meal includes the date of the execution and the state where it occurred. Art About Agriculture: The Sustainable Feast. Giustina Gallery, 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free. The 39th annual Art About Agriculture Competition and Touring Exhibition 2022: The Sustainable Feast will celebrate the region’s sustainable, diverse, and innovative food. Working closely with Oregon State University’s Food Innovation Center, this year’s open call asks artists to reflect on food, including production of ingredients, preparation of food, food packaging, cooking food, sharing meals, dining, and presentation. These pieces will explore important food topics such as environmental impact, food waste reduction, nose-to-tail cooking, food ethics, local foods, food for medical needs, reduced waste food packaging solutions, plant varieties for enjoyment and disease resistance, sustainable fisheries, grassland management, food science, and nutrition among many others. Hanne Niederhausen and Judith Wyss show artworks that span the second-half of their careers. Their artistic exploration illustrates that creativity can be enhanced by experience and that creative exploration is an important element in an artist’s life. The Corrine Woodman Gallery presents the artwork of Serena Swanson, winner of the 2021 The Arts Center Student Award. Historic Preservation Month: Samuel Whiteside Family House and Barn Tour. Bellfountain Road, 6154 Bellfountain Rd., Corvallis. Samuel Whiteside Family House and Barn Tour – Tour of the Samuel Whiteside 1880s house and 1901 Skipton barn. We’ll go over the basic history of the structures and farm outbuildings, discussing the plan for their restoration, preservation and adaptive re-use. In the case of the Skipton barn, when is your building too far gone to save? We’ll discuss how to determine the pros and cons of saving such a barn, what options one could consider in salvaging, re-using or re-building. We will not be able to go inside these structures as they are very unstable but we can see inside to the barn and move around and discuss structural issues, ideas on how to best preserve the history and character of these vernacular structures that were a part of early Benton County settler history. Historic Preservation Month: Van Buren Bridge Video and Guided Tour. Video: Majestic Theater, Community Room, 115 SW 2 nd St., Corvallis. 1p.m.Free. “Van Buren Bridge, A Visit From the Past.” The video presents a story about two ghosts returning to Corvallis. They both magically materialize in front of the Van Buren Bridge at the same time. Mary Oppen, a young artist, is in the process of painting the bridge when a man materializes in front of her and blocks her view of the bridge. The man is C. B. (Mac) McCullough, Oregon’s most famous bridge engineer. They begin to talk and discover that they both had lived in Corvallis when they were young and were drawn to the bridge at this time because they had heard that the bridge was going to be torn down.  They had fond memories of Corvallis and the bridge and needed to see it and relive their young lives before it was gone. They take a walk across the bridge and talk about their lives. As they walk Mary talks about the history of Corvallis and Mac talks about the uniqueness of the bridge.
